Why Court?
Well, Great Grandfather Constantine Demas (father's father's father) came through Ellis Island years ago. He didn't speak English well, or at all, and when they asked him his name he said "Constantine". They couldn't really understand, so they just wrote down "Const." instead. When somebody else was doing his citizenship papers, they misread it as "Court", and his ID showed up with that misspelling. The name stuck (why?), and so everybody started calling him "Court". He later named my grandfather George Court Demas, and my grandfather named his son George Court Demas Jr. My parentals apparently decided that I didn't need a middle name (hey, it worked for my sister) and called me just Court Demas. So here I am.
Disclaimer
This story was told to me by my father. This is the man who has told me many other fascinating stories like: Citizen Kane was the story of the guy who swam across the river and founded Las Vegas; the chestnuts I've been eating are somewhat poisonous; etc.
